About two miles outside Tralee there is a large grassy patch, which was used for public execution years ago. It is told that on a certain morning a priest was celebrating Holy Mass at this spot. The soldiers were watching the priest and as they got word of his whereabouts they came to "Gallows Green" As they came I'm sight of the priest, their colonel ordered them to fire at the priest, but jeu refused, saying that they could see no priest. The colonel was greatly surprised and returned with his soldiers to Tralee. That night when he went home, he related his story to his mother, who was speaking to a neighbour.
