After fifty years ago there lived in Cappaclough Jack "Mararty" and his wife Maire Keane...

    (continued from previous page)
They heard something noising and they had no light save the glow of the "brosna". Maire got up to see what was causing the noise. When she rose up the clothes and found the queer thing underneath she got an awful fright. She ran out without finishing her "potatoes and milk" and never stopped running until she came as far as my aunt's house which was almost a mile away. The family were saying the rosary and as they had come to the fourth decade, Maire ran in the door almost exhausted after her race and said "Oh" John Rice 'tá an diabhal ar mo leabaidh".
