Kilcara got its name from a wood on the river Feale. In this wood "praocáns" used to grow very plentiful. This is how the townland got the name of Kilcara, properly Coill Caora.

Long, long ago when people used to be getting married they used to go to the church on saddle horse very early in the morning. When they were married they came home without delay.
