The ancient name of this Glen was Gleann na nDeaga or the Glen of the stags + in ancient times this Glen was thickly wooded + even to the present day the Eastern side of the Glen is known as the wood + the little village of upper Thomavane is still called the wood.(continues on next page)- Collector
