    houses + at one of the points at the top of the Glen is found the remains of a large rectangular building which tradition tells us was built by hunted priests who had fled out of Annagh Abbey at the time it was destroyed by the reformers.
    The ancient name of this Glen was Gleann na nDeaga or the Glen of the stags + in ancient times this Glen was thickly wooded + even to the present day the Eastern side of the Glen is known as the wood + the little village of upper Thomavane is still called the wood.
