  1. It was an old custom in years gone - by, to make crosses of straw in honour of St. Patrick. These were placed inside the rafters of the house for luck, as they were supposed to keep all evil away.
    Palm was brought to the church in former times and blessed. Pieces of it were placed through the to bring luck.
    Old women made crosses of ribbons for children. These crosses were worn by the children on St. Patrick's day.
