  1. Basket making was one of the chief industries carried on in olden times. There are not as many basket-makers in our district as there was a few years ago. Tom Lydon, John Dodd and John Callaghan are among the best known of the basket-makers in this locality at the present day.
    Mostly all the gates and fire-cranes in our district are made in the local forge.
