- In the vicinity of this school are the ruins of a once very famous abbey. It is called Toomour Abbey and though the parish in which I live is called Toomour, Keash its proper name is Toomour deriving the name from this abbey. It is situated in the Barony of Corran (Co Sligo).
Local tradition states that it was founded by Saint Patrick. Though some historians say that St. Patrick never passed through this barony there are many local legends connected with him.
The most famous Abbot who ruled over this monastery was St "lughbhaid". In his time it was a famous seat of learning and scholars came from many parts of Ireland to study here The best known of these Scholars was(continues on next page)- Collector
