  1. There was a woman named Mrs. Scanlon, Carrowreagh, Ballymote, going to Mass one Sunday and she was barefooted. She hit her foot against a stone and no doubt hurted. But what she said was, "Thank God! I had not my shoes on me or the tops would be kicked off them."
    Long ago if a person washed his feet at night he would not throw out the water until morning. It was said that the water, should it be thrown out at night, would wet the fairies, and ill-luck would dog him.
