  1. (6) The following was related to me by John Casey of Daughlomagh. This man is now seventy six years of age.
    In December eighteen hundred and seventy four a disastrous snow storm occured which caused a considerable amount of damage. Many human lives were lost owing to it.
    This blizzard commenced at at about twelve o'clock in the day and continued until ten o'clock at night. People coming from towns were unable to discern the road from the fields with the result that they walked into fields and bogs. The following week when the snow had thawed, their friends went in search of them and found them along ditches and beside turf stacks in the bog where the snow had drifted to a depth of twelve feet.
