The Castle of Ballymote

In the annals of the four Masters there is an account of the castle of Ballymote. This shows that the castle was renowned in olden days.
At present there remains not much more than the ruins of the place. It is situated outside the town of Ballymote near the Railway Station and beside the residence of the Parish Priest.
The walls are very high and covered with ivy. There are a few rooms and a great stone staircase still standing. At one time there was an orchard inside the four great walls which are still to be seen but recently tennis courts have taken the place of the garden.
The history of the Castle is to be found in many books. It belonged at one time to
