  1. The local fairs
    The local fairs are held in Ballymote and Tubbercurry. Sometimes buyers transact business in the country at crossroads or at farmers' houses. A few months ago a fair was held monthly in Bunninadden but now is has been discontinued because there were no buyers for the cattle. In the towns the cattle fairs are held in a field called a fair green. When an animal is sold the buyer is usually given a few shillings back by the seller. This is called "luck money". According to the money given for the animal the luck money is calculated. When a bargain has been made the parties show their agreement by striking hands. When the seller has got the money he spits on it. A bargain is made by one of the men holding out one of his hands and the other puts his hand on it. The seller is asked how much will he take for the beast. When an animal is sold, it is marked with raddle. Sometimes it is marked on the back or on the flank with mud or paint. When an animal is sold the halter is not given away. The May fair is the greatest fair of the year locally. Special fairs are held
