- In olden times the beds were all made of wood with a canopy on top usually called by the old people "teaster". They used to leave things up on top of the "teaster".
They had curtains on the sides and one long one on top.
Some had a one across the bottom as well called a "valance". The bottom was even made of wood and therefore it was hard but they had a large tick of feathers which made it kind and soft. They used to have heavy quilts and light ones. They were patch work quilts.
