  1. Long ago the houses were very different from what they are now. In olden times there was no cement. The houses were made of stone and mud, the floors were made of "daub" Some of these "daub" floors are to be seen up to the present day. The roofs were made with rushes or straw. There was no glass long ago for windows. There were only square holes in the walls. These were shut up with boards at night to keep away wild animals.
    There were usually two rooms and a kitchen in every house. Sometimes a bed was in the kitchen. It was in a place in the wall. This place was called a 'leabhaic'. Sometimes this place was
