  1. There was once a poor old woman who lived alone in a little house and she was very poor. One night she was sitting by the fire when she heard a knock at the door. She opened it and in came a little brown rabbit. The old woman ran and got a knife to kill the rabbit for supper and when she put out her hand to catch the rabbit it said "do not kill me" the old woman was so surprised to hear the rabbit talk that she left down the knife and sat by the fire. The rabbit sat down by the fire also and went to sleep. When it awoke it asked the old woman for something to eat. The old woman gave the rabbit a bit of a turnip and went to bed.Next morning she opened the door and the rabbit ran out. That evening
