  1. Sty in the eye.
If a person had a sty in his eye, he used to point a thorn of a gooseberry bush to the eye each day for nine days. Each day a different thorn was applied to the sty, and on the tenth day, the thorns were thrown away.
    Warts.
Vinegar and ivory are a cure for warts. Both are put into a bottle and corked and buried in the ground for nine days. At the end of this time, the ivory will be melted. Then it should be taken up and the mixture applied to the warts, both morning and night till the warts are gone.
