  1. Account given by
    Miss Bohan,
    St Odran's,
    Ballymote

The building now occupied by the Sisters of Mercy was built by the Earl of Kingstown who came to Ireland with Cromwell. It was afterwards owned by Sir Robert Gore Booth of Lios an Dall and Captain Gethins and sold by him to the nuns.

    Old Song about Earlsfield
    1
Around our fire one Winter's night
This tale to us was told
By a kind old man who wandered in
    To shelter from the cold
To the nuns you go to school said he
    Do you the history know
    Of Earlsfield and the prophecy
That was made long years ago?
Transcribed by a member of our volunteer transcription project.
