  1. Many treasures are supposed to have been hidden in this district.
One is supposed to have been hidden in a tumble down dwelling house in the town of Cloonameenahan. This treasure is said to have been hidden by the Danes when they were fleeing the country. It is a chest of gold coins and is said to value £1,000 at the least.
Two men were told in a dream to go and get the treasure but if they talked they would not get it. They reached the house and had uncovered the lid of the chest when one of the men shouted that the cow was in the lake and when she looked back again the treasure was gone.
