  1. There were no regular shops in olden times. Goods were sold after Mass. People who would want goods such as flour and meal would have to go to town for them. They used to bring potatoes or oats and exchange them for the goods. Groceries were mostly sold outside the church. When people would want to buy anything and have no money they would get it "on tick". Butter and eggs were often given in exchange for goods. Eggs are given in exchange for goods in the shop.
