  1. There used to be a fair held in Castlebaldwin in P. J. Brehney's field but it has been discontinued because there used to be fighting at it. It used to be held twice a year on the 4th of June and the 4th of November. Boyle fair is held sixteen times a year. Pigs and sheep are sold on the street and cattle are sold on the fair green. When an animal is brought there is always luck-money given with it. When a horse is bought the halter is given with him but it is retained with a cow. At Ballymote fair sixpence custom has to be paid to the buyer.
