  1. In former times people did not wear boots till they left school or two years after. Some people never wore shoes in their life. Children at present do not wear boots in Summer.
    It is said that when you are throwing out water which you washed your feet with, you should say to the fairies that were supposed to be outside, for fear the dirty water would fall on them
    "Thugha Thugha uisge salach."

    There are not many shoe - makers in this district. There were far more in former times.

    Clogs are worn in this district. They were also worn in former times. There were no leather tanners in this district.
