  1. Old Schools
    There were hedge schools long ago, but the are none left now.
    There was a school in Knockmore, and the name of the master was Harry Corken.
    The school was in a field.
    There was no Irish in those days.
    If any of the pupils spoke Irish in front of the master he would slap them.
    The teacher used to lodge in the houses.
    They used to write with quill pens.
    The teachers were paid by the farmers.
    The pupils were to have stones for desks.
    There were not as much books in those days as there are now.
    The teacher used to stay three months in the district.
