    Amidst the clustering trees
    As fierce the English bugles rang
    Resounded on the breeze
    Still down each slope the rebels formed
    With wild and ringing cheer
    While fast in live of battle form
    Old Humbert's grenadiers.
    The flags of France and Ireland waved
    Serene above that Host
    Whilst here and there each patriot brave
    Stands steadily at his post
    Amidst the trees of Union wood
    Pikes glittering near and far
    Blades that have drunk of Saxon blood
    At far famed Castlebar.
    Old Leyney sends her boldest sons
    To strike for the old land
    While curled swords and scythes and guns
    Gleam amidst the mustering band
    From Sligo town to Geevagh heights
    They gathered near and far
    Brave hearted that never shirked to fight
