  1. In the townland of Carrowcastle outside the town of Riverstown in a field there is a treasure hidden. The field is situated a half a mile from the road, there are no houses near it. It was put there by the Dane's, and consists of a pot of gold.
One night a man who lived near Riverstown dreamt about it. He dreamt that three men should go and seek it and that a black cat was guarding it. The cat would kill one of the men if they did not kill him. Before anyone arose in the morning the three men started on their journey. When they arrived at the spot they began digging for the treasure. They dug and dug until one of them hit the flag that was covering the treasure. The cat squealed; they could not know where it was it seemed be to be all around them. The men got afraid, they filled it in again and went away. No one ever dug for it since.
