  1. The potato crop is the most valuable crop that can be produced.
    Only for the potatoes the food would be very scarce. When the farmer wants to grow potatoes he ploughs the land with a pair of horses and a plough.
    Then he levels the ridges with a spade. Some farmers make drills instead of ridges. Then he splits the potatoes and sows them. After a while he puts manure and clay on them. When the stalks make their appearance he sprays them with blue stone and washing soda mixed in a barrel.
    In the harvest time he digs them puts them in a pit and covers them with rushes and clay. The next year he puts oats in the potato soil.
