Long ago the food the people used was very plain. There was scarcely any tea or bread at all. People lived on potatoes and fish, often bread, boxty and eggs.
They always used a lot of their own butter and buttermilk. The people were very healthy in those days. They were hardly ever a day sick.
They used to steal bread out of the press when they used to be hungry.
