  1. Long ago the people used to make candle out of rushes.
    First the people used to pull the rushes and put beside the fire to dry. Then they took the green off out side rushes and had to be careful not to break the rushes. The people long ago had no light only the candles. They use to make the candles themselves. When the rushes were dry they melted lard and put it in the rushes.
