  1. It is an old tradition in this district and is founded on fact that before National Schools were built a well known teacher of the hedge schools a grand Uncle of the present John Morrow of Collooney used to hold school sometimes at crossroads and in fields between Collooney and Ballymote.
    In the mornings a long string of donkeys carried the scholars to and from the meeting place.
    Irish and other subjects were taught. Many of these scholars passed for big job. Morrow himself got all his knowledge from a poor scholar.
