The children of the present day wear no shoes in the Summer months. When people are washing their feet, they put salt in the water, this is done by fearing the person would get cold, then the water is thrown out.
There is one shoemaker in my district and his name is James Doyle. He is living in the town-land of Knocknagrough and parish of Ballisodare. He is a very good shoemaker. This man's father and grandfather were also shoemakers, and also his son knows a lot about the trade.
Clogs were worn long ago but were not made locally. They are also made at the present day.
The men wore leather leggins they are worn over the tops of the shoes and were great for keeping out the wet.
They are worn by some of the men of the present day.
