  1. One of the oldest trades carried on in the village of Streamstown was salt making which was stopped at least 100 years ago.The place known as the Saltpams is situated near the edge of the sea in the townland of Streamstown in the parish of Ballisodare,and in the Barony of Layney.
    There were over 60 men employed at the Saltpans and their labour was pumping water and carting salt. The implements used in working the factory
