- How Turf is Saved.
First of all the farmer cuts the top sod off the bank. Then he cuts the turf with a spade which has a wing in it. Then he scatters them on the ground.
Next he makes "footings" and leaves them for a few days in the sun to dry. When they are well dried he gathers them up and makes clamps of them. Next he puts them out on the road. After some time he brings them home and makes a stack out of them.- Collector
