    Old Crafts.
    The burning of lime kilns.
    This is the way lime is burned in kilns. First of all there is a big hole dug in the ground and when it is big enough it is filled with stones. It is round like a well and is called a lime kiln. When it is filled with the stones there is a big fire put in it every day for about a month and at the end of this time the stones are burned into white dust and this is called lime. Lime is very useful for white washing the kitchen and stables. It leaves a beautiful white colour on everything
