    A brilliant states-man's eyes are closed.
    Ans a nation still and woe.
    Poor Ireland's dearest friend is gone
    Great Davitt of Mayo
    His Parents were evicted
    When he was but a boy
    Evicted from the house he loved.
    That the landlords did destroy
    When he kelt beside the ruined walls,
    Where the tyrant still lay low
    and vowed he'd die for the land he loved.
    Poor Davitt of Mayo
    A youthful vow he never broke
    While to man-hood years he grew
