    When you see the new moon for the 1st time you should bless yourself and turn some of your clothing inside out and you will get a present. It is not right to see the new moon through glass.
    It is thought unlucky to break a mirror.
    If a new moon is lying flat it is a sign of bad weather.
    It is supposed to be a sign of death in the family to hear a dog crying, especially at night.
    Also to hear a cock at night before the usual time.
    A crowing hen is supposed to bring endless bad luck.
