  1. Our local landlord was Majoy Cooper. His people had been landlords in this district for over one hundred years. The Coopers were looked upon as being good landlords and they were noted for their generosity to the poor people. It is said that they spent two or three hundred pounds on the poor yearly.
    Their agents were very bad men and evicted many people. Most of these people who were evicted settled down in the bog and built little houses for themselves. Others went to England. Through the high honours conferred on the Coopers in the British army they became landlords of more than half of Co. Sligo.
