- Long ago there were only a few carts in every townland.
When a person died the people had to carry the corpse across fields to some place where there was a cart or a car.
Sometimes they had to rest in a field.
They called the spot of ground where the corpse was left a Foidín Mairbh.
If a person stood on that spot in the night he was suddenly put astray.
One night a young man left his house to go to the road.
In crossing a field he passed over one, and all at once he was half a mile away.
He tried to go to some light which was near him.
