  1. Shrove Tuesday, or another name for it is pan-cake night. The why it is called that. Long ago Lent was a forbidden time of marriage and anyone that was to get married got married before Lent and anyone, that didn't get married used to spend the whole day talking of all used to get married, and then it was too late to make bread, for the supper, and they had to do with pancakes.
