  1. About 15th July 1898 a terrible flood rose in Glenree river and it swept away the new Glenree bridge. Considerable damage was done to the oats and potato crops and this left the farmers in very poor circumstances.
    The morning was bright and calm. Towards mid-day a stiff breeze arose from the east, black clouds darkened the sky at 2.30, the thunder came half an hour afterwards and vivid flashes of lightning followed.
