  1. Many years ago the people in this district ate oaten bread. This bread was made from oaten-meal a little grain of salt and a drop of water all mixed together and formed into a dough. The dough was then flattened out into a cake about an inch in thickness.
    It was left on a grid iron before the fire and turned occasionally until it was thoroughly baked.
