   The only industry that my father knew in this locality was the salmon fishery in Scurmore on the river Moy. It was owned by the Land Lord of the district, and it gave employment to about twenty men, from the 2st May till the 12th August. Also there were carts employed conveying the fish to Balina railway station About 30 years ago it was discontinued and the proprieters sold their rights to the owners of the Moy fishery of the present day Mssrs. Little and Garvey. There was not much salmon caught there during the later years owinf to a wall built by Moy harbour comission to run the channels straight for the Ballina quay. Before that enornous quantities of salmon were caught in Scurmore as the chanel ran righ round within about 30 yards of the shore. Often about four or five carts were employed daily for weeks bringing them to the railway station. The wage paid at the fishery was about 9/ per week but it increased to 12/ per wek in later years. The method of catching salmon was Three heavy anchors were placed in the water about 120 yards out from the high water mark.
