- (continued from previous page)you will have to bring oil paper and matches. The old people say it is lucky to start cutting turf on a Friday. They turf-spade is different to the common spade. There is a wing on the turf-spade to keep up the sod of turf. A person with sore feet takes off his shoes in the bog to cure them. If the bog was not far away the people of the house would bring the tea to them but if it was they themselves would bring tea and sugar.
- About the twelvth of August we start cutting the oats. My father cuts it with the scythe. My brother comes after him and makes bands and lifts the oats into bundles and ties it with the bands. He leaves the sheaves(continues on next page)
