- Old Ruins
Among the many ruins of Sligo there are some very old ones. Among the principal ones, the Abbey is the most important. It was built in the fifteenth century. At that time the Abbey took up most of Sligo. Later in the fifteenth century it was destroyed by King Henry VIII yet the ruins remain to be seen this very day The monks graves can also be seen. The Bells of the Abbey are at the bottom of Lough Gill and there is a saying that the Bells ring before a person is drowned.- Informant
