  1. The nearest fair has taken place on the First Monday of every month in Sligo. There is a Fair Green there but one time the fair was in the streets about 20 years ago. Buyers (butchers) often come out the country and buy fat cattle for meat. Toll is not paid for cattle. "Luck Money" is given about 2/6 or 3/. per beast sold + 1/- or 6d out of a sheep. The farmers slap hands when making a bargain. The contracting parties usually have a drink after a sale + the seller "stands" it. Animals are marked with a red chalk
