  1. Long ago there were no candles, the people had rush candles.
    First when the people started to make candles.
    First when the people started to make candles, they got the rushes and peeled them, they melted lard and dipped the rush in it, a rush candle would last for about two hours. They had no candlesticks either, so they used to stick the candles into a sod of turf.
    On "candlemas night" when all the neighbours gathered together in one house, they would make a lot of rush candles and they would have a large sod of turf and stick
