  1. The "King" of the Island told the following story. He was asked if there were (ang) any faireys on Coney Island. "Tons of them" he replied. "I'll tell you what happened to John McGowan, Micheal Carty, Mickey Haran and myself a few years ago. We were fishing outside Carrickfodla. Shortly after Mr Flood got his mowing machine, and at twelve o'clock didn't the mowing machine begin to work along the "Skelp". The three of us heard the machine going and turning, and we could hear the cracking of the drivers whip and the snorting of the horses as plain as if the machine was working within a few yards of us.
