  1. The people in this district marry mostly during Shrove, and the days unlucky to marry on are Friday and Saturday.
"Matches" are made and money is given as a fortune. In olden times when money was scarce stock and goods were given. After the marriage when the bride and groom came out of the church, the people throw rice on them, and the old shoes for good luck on to the car or whatever conveyance they have.
The people attending the wedding used to race each other on horses on the way home
A wedding feast is held in the new home of the bride and groom and there is feasting and music and dancing until morning, when the Strawboys come in there is great fun. They wear suits made of straw with bells tied round their waists and big tall pointed hats also made of straw. When all the fun is over the bride and groom go on their honeymoon.
