As previously stated this well lies to the north side of the Duff River which separates Sligo from Leitrim. The landlord of the district adjacent to the river, in County Leitrim was Robert Barton, later Colonel Barton.

Thomas Harte, a tenant of above landlord, had or owned a farm which bordered the Duff River. On this farm are the two wells of St. Patrick ; Tobar Phádraig & Tobar na bhearrtha. About 500 yards or so, is the distance they are apart.
