  1. Here is a story about Cromwell. I have heard it from William McGloin, Grellagh Sligo, age 80 years.
    and from Tom Fox, Glencar Sligo, 65 years.
    While Cromwell was here, he attacked Sligo town and burned the abbey there and killed all the monks.
    They ten set out for manor hamilton to do likewise.
    He or his soldiers did not know the way and tried to cross the mountain in order to come unawares on the people. Glencar mountain lies between the two places and is crossed by a rough path.
