    Presently there is very little churning done as most people send their milk to the creamery. Still here and there some home butter is made. Years ago it was quite common to see people going to Sligo or Ballyhannon on Saturday - Butter-Market Day, some with 1 firkin, more 2 and more less. This has completely died out. Whatever is done presently is for home use. Say the people keep Saturday morning's and Sunday's milk and churn some for themselves.
    The vast majority of churns now comply with the following description.
