  1. The following are some of the local guides - from which a change in the weather may be foretold.
    1. When the sun is rising in the morning, if the sky is red in the east, it is a sign of a storm.
    The more fiery the sky, the severer the storm - also nearer. From here the saying is - "Garrison - a town to the East from here - was red this morning". A severe storm approaching.
    2. Towards the north is a mountain - Slieve League. Any morning if this is mist covered, rain will fall ere night. If the mist is creeping down it shall turn out a very wet day. "Mist on Sliabh League this morning"
