  1. There is much forge work carried on in this district still. A man who works in a forge is called a blacksmith. A balcksmith's workshop is called a forge. A forge is a building of one apartment with a wide entrance door and is usually situated on the roadside.
    In a forge there is a large coal fire kept. This fire is kept alight by blowing it with a bellows. There is a large anvil standing on a block of wood near the fire. On this anvil the smith hammers iron into any shape he likes.
    There is a strong wooden bench running along one of side of the forge and there is a heavy iron vice fixed at one end of the bench.
    The smith uses various tools including sledges, hammers, iron tongs and pincers.
